Projects:

Prioritising preventative health interventions for England.  2009.

The key message from the project is that it is possible to produce a method that prioritises preventative health interventions based on the evidence requirements of decision makers. The method developed overcomes the current lack of a formal process for prioritising investments in health interventions in England. It addresses commissioners’ information needs, and supports better decisions and the achievement of World Class Commissioning standards.  See Health England Report No 5 .

Public Health Interventions Cost Effectiveness Database (PHICED).  2009.

The Public Health Interventions Cost Effectiveness Database (PHICED) is a database of bibliographic records comprising; National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) Guidance and Costing Templates, Cost-Effectiveness Studies and Decision Tools in; Alcohol, Obesity, Physical activity and Tobacco. The development of this tool was funded by Health England and forms part of the National Library for Public Health.  See  PHICED website.

Public Health and Prevention Expenditure in England.  2009.

Prevention expenditure in England in 2006/07 was estimated to be £3.7 billion, using OECD System of Health Accounts definitions (i.e. excluding expenditure on preventative pharmaceuticals and including expenditures only on activities that can be classed as organised social programmes). As a percentage of estimated total health expenditure in England over the same period, we conclude that prevention expenditure in 2006/07 was 4.0% of total health expenditure.  See Health England Report No 4 .
