About Health England

 

Health England: a national reference group for health and wellbeing was established in early 2007.  Health England has a remit to take forward the recommendations in the White Paper 'Our health, our care, our say : a new direction for community services.

The main work of Health England is focusing upon the development of a 10-year plan for preventative  spending, based on a comparison with other OECD countries.  The plan is due to be published in March 2009.

The Chair of Health England is Professor Julian Le Grand, Richard Titmuss Professor of Social Policy,  London  School  of Economics and Political Science.  Professor Le Grand's Beveridge Memorial Lecture 'The Giants of Excess:  a Challenge to the Nation's Health' can be found here:   Beveridge Memorial Lecture .

The Secretariat for Health England is based at the Public Health Resource Unit in Oxford which is part of the wider organisation 'Supporting Public Health' which includes the South East Public Health Observatory and the Oxford Cancer Intelligence Unit.  The Secretary to Health England is Dr Robert Sherriff and he can be contacted at secretary@healthengland.org .
